| ANAC MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, NOVEMBER 2006: A DIVIDED NIGERIA?, GOD FORBID; CALL FOR DIASPORA NAME REVIEW (Visit us www.anacweb.org, email us memberservices@anacweb.org).
We enter into this month with much concern over the democratic developments in Nigeria as 2007 approaches. It is important that we stand independent and support the cause of justice, fairness and true democratic development in Nigeria, free of corruption, tribalism and nepotism. It is our intention to keep a constructive view on all developments. Its however pivotal that we keep in mind that the contribution of the Nigerian International Communities is extremely essential if Nigeria is to move forward into the desired era of economic and technological advancement. To this end it have become necessary for us to step up the notch in our organizational structure and see further into the future. ANAC intends to continue to build the foundation for a savvy, Nigerian independent international community organization, that will be sustained through multiple democratic governments in Nigeria and continue to represent the interest of Nigerians who reside in ! the International communities. We are careful to first call upon the Nigerian International community to review the name diaspora. We in ANAC have begun the debate as our different chapters will be debating the name diaspora; is it really an appropriate name for us?. DIASPORA means a scattered or dispersed people. One is reminded of the saying "a rolling stone gathers no Morse". The name Nigerian International Community is another alternative name. In the next few weeks and months this debate will continue in our ANAC family, every chapter will have a chance to give their views and hopefully we will return with a unified voice to inform the world and the entire Nigerian community of a preferred name to refer to us as a people unified, with hope and aspiration and not merely reference of scattered gainful laborers around the world. We take this opportunity to call on other regional groups including the World Igbo Congress, the Zumunta Association, the Omo Eg! be Yoruba and the South South Niger Delta Consortium to debate! the nam e and consider the Nigerian International community as a alternative reference. We are a picture of what the best of our homeland can aspire, indeed we are the la cream before the eyes of the international communities. With our exposure to the best of world technology, center stage in knowledge of what it takes to make economies move forward, it is no wonder, almost all of the developing countries moving ahead today has had to rely significantly on their International Communities. Nigeria has also profess this will, and the necessary steps from both sides has to come together efficaciously. It is important that we build foundations, and institutional structures that the next generation should and must continue to build upon. If we lack anything the most, .... You name it, great institutions that can and are built upon. We at ANAC intends to continue to build these great institutions.. Our ANAC youth and American/Nigerian University programs, solid proposals and engagement in our leadership Manifesto, business and technological advan! ce organizations, Nigerian American/Continental Nigerian partnership, Nigerian private and public partnerships, our work to continue to represent and fight for the interest of Nigerian Americans here in the United States Congress in Washington, DC and liaison with other Minority groups to best foster the interest of Nigerian Americans. These course must be built upon as an institution, so that our next generation both here in the United States and around the world would continue that which we have started. Our work has gained much recognition and it has just begun. We must stay united and must stress the unity of Nigeria as a people. Our programs in health care, housing, technology development, political action, and responses from the Nigerian government, Nigerian business community, banks, multiple branches of Nigerian administrations, different United States government recognitions, awards from United States Congress, contacts to us as authoritative representative and expert on Nigerian affairs by many reputable American and International organizations, are a testament to the great works we have begun. However, this is only the beginning of the great task. We must continue to be the catalyst and advocate for a corrupt free, strong police/security, economically productive and socially habitable Nigeria as well as a developed, progressive, and well organized Nigerian International community. As we have attained such comfort and progress in our domicile outside ! Nigeria, we must gather such wit and resources both individually and collectively to Marshall hope and development for our motherland in Nigeria. ANAC is poised again to continue the great task as a strong Nigerian American community builder, to keep up our hopes and gains here in the United States and support others around the world to achieve similar goals.
