 All Nigeria American Congress (ANAC) concludes a very productive 2nd Congressional Session in Largo Maryland

 All Nigeria American Congress {ANAC} has successfully concluded its highly productive second congressional session in Largo Maryland. ANAC, a conglomerate organization representing 2-3 million Nigerians and their families living in North America was formerly launched about two years ago, the organization has established itself as a respective voice in Washington D.C and beyond for all its constituents. The second congressional session was put together under the able leadership of Honorable Ola Aina, an ANAC delegate and trustee from Connecticut, who also served as the Chairman of the Congressional Committee.

The event was staged at the beautiful Radisson Hotel in Largo Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C. The conference drew participants from 20 states of the United States, executives from several Nigerian firms including the CEO and Managing Director of the new Nigeria Social Insurance Fund {NSITF}, Mr.Oseni Elamah. Several media representatives both from the United States and Nigeria were at hand to cover the event.

Friday Session

The two day conference started on Friday, March 31st, as Dr. Dan Austin M.D, Chairman of the ANAC Board of Trustees warmly welcomed participants to the meeting. Dr. Austin noted in his welcome remarks, “I am most pleased for your attendance and devoting your valuable time to attend and contribute to this crucial session of the All Nigeria American Congress, {ANAC} The Chairman said he is “Pleased that ANAC is moving in this direction because as one of the only organizations in this country representing the interest of Nigerians, ANAC will surely bring a spotlight on Nigeria, and will certainly become a strong advocate for development of Nigeria as well as representing the interest of Nigerian Americans, living in the United States”.

With those optimistic and warm remarks, Dr. Austin opened the Friday session, as Honorable Mohammed Bagudu, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Honorable Ola Aina, Trustee from Connecticut and Honorable Paula Ajasefinni, Delegate from Maryland, served as moderators for the Friday session. The session ended with open interaction and reception.

Saturday Session

The second day of the conference began promptly at 9am on Saturday April 1st inside the main conference hall with registration attendants welcoming convention attendees. At 910 am, the Chairman of the Board Dr. Austin declared the conference open, as guests, and dignitaries were invited to the high table.

ANAC Power and Energy Committee

The first presentation was made by the ANAC Power and Energy Committee under the leadership of Honorable Colin Atobajeun, Chairman of the committee. The Power and Energy Committee presented their program through the use of audio-visual techniques, highlighting the committees work in the areas of Oil and Gas, Electricity, Coal, Ethanol, Solar, Wind, Nuclear, Compost and Refuse/Trash. The committee also discussed their mandate, which according to their white paper includes formulation of resolutions, bills, and plans relating to the science of energy sources and use. The Committee also informed the highly attentive audience about the investment opportunities available in the Power and Energy Industry. Accordingly, Mr. Atobajeun suggested that investors can pool their investment assets together to purchase blocks of shares in the firm, J.W. Exploration. Each block consists of 10,000 shares, at the cost of pre IPO offering of $1/share. J.W. Exploration has been in oil and gas business for about 80 years and owns about 3000 acres in oil leases. The firm is in the process of going public in less than 1 year with an IPO of $2-5 per share. In the “Last Mile” segment of the presentation, the audience was offered a question and answer opportunity, and many questions were raised including how to invest in the company. The Power and Energy Committee also provided the ANAC audience with upcoming conventions and events related to the energy industry in the United States, Nigeria and the Niger Delta.

ANAC Housing Committee

The next Committee to take the center stage was the powerful ANAC Housing Committee under the dynamic leadership of Honorable David Ogunaike, ANAC Trustee and Delegate from California. Mr. Ogunaike mesmerized the audience with current projects including the mind blowing Ogunsville Green City Project in Ogun State of Nigeria. The Ogunsville project is a joint venture with Ogun state government of Nigeria and other partners to develop about 600 acres of land in Ogun State/Lagos border region, in a comprehensive real estate development project to include residential and commercial buildings, roads, schools and all necessary infrastructure for a self sustaining and viable community known as Ogunsville. Mr. Oguniake very vividly displayed the prototype of the project through audio visual techniques. He also solicited for additional project investors informing the attendees that the project has already broken ground.

ANAC Health Committee

ANAC Health Committee under the Honorable Chairman Dr Abio Sokari, ANAC delegate from Kansas then took their turn. Dr. Sokari once more proved that physical impairment is no longer an impediment to self achievement and performance. Through the use of state of the art technology, Dr. Sokari presented a dynamic report on the involvement of ANAC Health Committee with the new Nigerian National Health Insurance Scheme {NHIS}headed by Executive Director Mohammed M. Leckey. Dr. Sokari drew a standing ovation upon completion of the Health report.

ANAC forms Strategic Alliance with the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund {NSITF}

Attendees also listened to the presentation made by the CEO and Managing Director of the new Nigeria Social Insurance Fund {NSITF}, Mr.Oseni Elamah. ANAC formed a strategic alliance with NSITF for the purpose of registering Nigerians for the Retirement Scheme. The audience learnt from Mr. Elamah that anyone who worked and paid money into the old Nigerian Pension Scheme can now be tracked with their former Nigerian employer and address, once their pension payments are identified; such individuals are still eligible to collect from such payments if they reach the Nigerian Retirement age of 50. Nigerians who register into the new NSITF fund through ANAC will be given a 30% discount on the registration fee. The new ANAC ADHOC Committee was formed to handle such matters, with Honorable George Mbagwu, ANAC Trustee and Delegate from Maryland as the Chair. Honorable Paul Oranika, ANAC Trustee and Delegate from Georgia was named as Secretary for the Committee. Honorable Dr. Peter Agho from New York offered his office as part of the collection and processing of application forms for transmittal to the Nigerian Pension authorities

Convention Highlights

The first highlight of the convention was the unanimous election of Honorable Mrs. Temitope Ajayi as the new ANAC President of the House of Delegates. Mrs. Ajayi prior to that moment was the Vice President ANAC House of Delegates. She is representing the Golden Gate State of California.

The Leadership Caucus

All eyes now turned towards the main highlight of the convention. The ANAC Political Action Committee under the leadership of Honorable Dr. Abdulateef Kareem, ANAC Trustee and Secretary General from Illinois now took the center stage for the leadership Caucus. This session included many moderators the Honorable Dr. Peter Agho ANAC Trustee and Delegate from New York was one of them

The Leadership Caucus was conducted as a town hall meeting featuring representatives of the World Igbo Congress represented by Honorable George Mbagwu. Honorable Mohammed Bagudu represented the Northern Peoples Zumunta Association, while Honorable. Frederick Olayinde also served as a moderator along with representatives from the Eko club. The South-South Group was represented by Honorable Chief Nunu. Honorable Johnson Dapo Ayodele represented the South-West Caucus, while Honorable Lillian Ajayi stood in for the Ambassador of Youth & Repertoire. Honorable Chief Temitope Ajayi President of ANAC House of Delegates represented the Nigerian Women Congress. Who else but the Honorable Akeem Bello, ANAC Trustee and Delegate from North Carolina could represent the Egbe Yoruba Association. Mr. Bello is the Nigerian Presidential hopeful for the New Democrats in the upcoming 2007 presidential election.

Deliberations in the Leadership Caucus were very intense, rigorous and enlightening, but highly organized. Issues covering Security in Nigeria, Nigerian National ID Card, Unemployment issues, and the constitutionality of the 3rd term presidency were all discussed.

Congressional Session and Selection of Atlanta and Abuja as hosts  for the Summer and Winter  Sessions respectively

The second ANAC convention rounded up with the Congressional session which was chaired by Dr. Dan Austin, Chair Board of Trustees. Other issues were discussed including constitutional amendments to the ANAC Constitution. Atlanta Georgia was chosen to host the summer session in June/July, while Abuja was selected to host the ANAC winter session.
